140 years ago on June 17, 1873, suffragist Susan B. Anthony began her trial for illegally voting in New York.

At her trial, the court asked Anthony if she had anything to say on why her sentence should not be pronounced. She responded by fiercely defending her right to vote, arguing that she had been "robbed" of the fundamental privilege of citizenship.
