Dr. Karen Book, PhD
Race, Racism, and COVID-19

As the global pandemic of COVID-19 stretches into its second year, disparities in cases, mortality and vaccine access continue to exist between racial and ethnic groups in the United States. In her talk, Dr. Karen Book argued that these differences, like other racial health disparities, are directly and indirectly the result of systemic racism in the United States.

Countering Myths about FGM and Female Sexuality

Female Genital Mutilation, or FGM, has many myths associated with it, equally so female sexuality.  Dr. Abdulcadir talked about the lack of awareness of these topics that aids the continuation of myths and taboos, and how that continues to drive harmful practices. Dr Abdulcadir addressed these myths and taboos, to help and empower women to understand female sexuality and make informed decisions.
