 In 2001, the UN designated the year as International Year of the Volunteer to acknowledge the “ important contribution of volunteers across the globe are making in promoting peace and addressing social, economic and cultural issues that the world have faced.”  This year on Dec 5, International Volunteer Day, they are celebrating the 10^th anniversary and are taking stock of the progress made in the last decade.  The UN is collecting photos of volunteers to “showcase the power of volunteer action in every country.  To contribute a photo, go to www.worldvolunteerweb.org  And to view a booklet on how to measure the value of volunteering go to www.un.org/news-resources/resources.html
