Awesome Blossoms has submitted its final status report, confirming the acquisition of a permanent urban plot in Chokaa, Nairobi. This was the result of the overwhelmingly successful fundraising for Target Project 5. With the additional funds, Peninah and her team were able to ensure that they were no longer constrained by the need to rely on leased land from schools. The existing Awesome Blossoms school-based farm will continue its community nutrition and education programs uninterrupted, while the newly acquired land will be developed into a separate commercial farm designed to generate diversified income through value-added products, training and consultancy.
As Peninah noted in her report, “This transition from tenant to landowner marks a fundamental shift in our operational model—from vulnerability to asset-based resilience. By eliminating lease uncertainties, we have fortified the long-term viability of both the school pilot and the future commercial farm, creating a replicable blueprint for sustainable urban agriculture that empowers women and youth through hands-on agribusiness training and climate-resilient food production.”
