Water and the Target Program

Of the 9 submissions for consideration as FAWCO’s Target Program issue, 3 of them were for Water. With the support of 4 clubs and the Environment Team, Water has the attention of many people within FAWCO. What about you?  While water is one of the necessities of life for everyone and everything, there are many worldwide problems caused by, and connected to, water. A few facts:

  • Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a water-related disease.
  • Globally, women and girls spend an average of three hours each day collecting water, leaving little time for a “non-essential” such as school.
  • 884 million people lack access to safe water supplies, approximately one in eight people.
  • Without food a person can live for weeks, but without water you can expect to live only a few days.

Water problems affect half of humanity! The Environment Team feels the Target Program should focus on increasing the supply of safe and secure water globally.

All FAWCO club’s will be asked to vote for the issue they would like to support and we encourage you to look over the information on the proposed issues on the website, so your decision is an informed one. On the Environment section, you will find a general bulletin about water problems as well as bulletins illustrating the connections between Water and the Food Supply, Health and Women’s Issues. We encourage you to get online, take a look at the information and feel free to use any of the articles in your own club publications! You will also find a short, informative Power Point presentation on water. Take a look at it yourself and feel free to use it within your club or Board to inform and raise awareness among your members. The bottom line is that we hope you will support Water for the Target issue!

Together, we can work thorough FAWCO to Change the Flow.
