FAWCO is proud to be a non-governmental organization with special consultative status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, a status supported by the work of our Task Forces on global issues.
Resolution # 1 of FAWCO's Resolutions and Recommendations for 2015 - 2017 establishes our commitment to improve the lives of women and girls worldwide, especially in the areas of education, the environment, health and human rights. Therefore, our Global Issues Task Forces focus on these four issues.
The Global Issues Task Forces serve as a resource for our members. As you read the information in these pages, you might decide to get involved in one of the Task Forces yourself. Join our team; pursue your passions.
The Education Task Force will inform FAWCO members about recent developments in the global effort to achieve universal primary education (UN MDG #2), especially related to issues in education for girls.
The Environment Task Force informs members about global environmental issues including air, soil and water pollution, species extinction, energy efficiency, conservation, waste reduction, and climate change.
The Health Issues Task Force provides information on issues related to women's health and aging. In 2014, the Task Force launched Clubs in Motion, a FAWCO-wide challenge to our walking and running groups, to circle the globe.
At the Interim Meeting in Frankfurt (March 11-13, 2016), Education – Empowering Women and Girls through Knowledge and Skills, was announced as the overarching theme for the FAWCO Target Program 2016 - 2019. The Target Program offers opportunities for local Clubs to make a global difference, by actively contributing toward the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals.
The new FAWCO Youth Program was launched at the 2013 Biennial Conference in Bern to promote cultural understanding and raise awareness of global issues in our youth, and to help them develop into responsible global citizens.
