Welcome Back! I hope you have had a fun and relaxing summer and are now energized for a busy Fall.

Congratulations and welcome to all new club presidents and FAWCO reps.  Please send us the new names & contact details (address, phone, email) at to update our directory. We use the directory for all FAWCO communications so please help us keep it up-to-date.

We are in the last 4 months of the  Target Water Program and Cambodia still needs wells.  Please consider having one last Target Water fundraiser in your club.  Contact Anne van Oorschot at  if you need assistance or ideas.

Do you have feedback/ input to the FAWCO Resolutions and Recommendations (R&Rs)? Do you think there is an important issue that warrants FAWCO's attention? Contact Laurie Richardson at with your suggestions. Laurie is working with her  committee to propose the FAWCO R&Rs for 2013-2015.

The Fall is when FAWCO has its regional meetings. Region 2 (Scandanavia), Region 4 (Benelux), Region 5 (Germany, Austria) and Region 9 (Middle East) have all planned their get-togethers. Attendance is open to all club members and not limited to the region. Click here for Regional Meeting dates & details.

Join the FAWCO global movement to raise awareness for ending violence against women by reading the book Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for  Women Worldwide between November 25th and December 10th.  See below for details on the "16 days campaign".

As a reminder, consider inviting FAWCO's Platinum Sponsor US Tax & Financial Services to your club to give a tax&banking workshop. We have received very positive feedback about this.  Contact to organize. Go to Workshop 1  on this page to attend their workshop at the Dublin Conference and check out UTFS' special FAWCO rates.

And of course, don't forget to register to VOTE! click on the Overseas Vote Foundation logo to the left.

FAWCO Target Water Program
the final stretch
Target Program Logo
There are only 4 months left to the  Target Water Project. FAWCO, thanks to you, has made a real difference to people's daily lives.   Click here for stories.  But Cambodia still needs wells.  Please do consider having one last Target fundraiser in your club, we'd love to bring in another $50,000 for Cambodia.
As the Target Water Project winds down, the FAWCO Board is evaluating its process and results.  We are doing this in 2 ways: we have an evaluation survey, and we will have a Target Evaluation task force, whose brief is to review and propose changes to the next Target Program.
I invite you to help us design a better Target Program by taking the survey (email me and I'll send it to you).  The due date for the survey is September 30th.  Alternatively, just send me your suggestions/ feedback  directly.  Thank you in advance.
Announcing FAWCO's two awareness campaigns
for ending violence against women

FAWCO's EVAWAC Taskforce (Ending Violence against Women and Children) has just launched 2 important campaigns and I invite all of our member clubs to participate - together, our voices carry far:

We invite you to join the FAWCO campaign to participate in the 16 Days Campaign 2012 in an effort  to raise awareness about gender-based violence as a human rights issue. We ask that you hold a book discussion group about one of the most powerful books on the oppression of women and girls in the developing world: Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide (2009) by Nicholas D Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.

It's easy to participate:

1. Plan your 16 Day Campaign 'Half the Sky' Book Discussion with friends, other FAWCO members, or as a club activity now!

2. Pick a venue and a date between November 25th and December 10th for your book group to meet.

3. Let us know about your discussion group immediately by emailing and we will register it with the 16 Day Campaign as a FAWCO activity.

4. Send us a summary () of your activity afterward: your own book review, photos, comments, anything, so that we can spread the word throughout FAWCO.

The 2nd campaign is for
March 8, 2013:  Join Me on the Bridge.

Where do you plan to be on March 8, 2013 - International  Women's Day?  Why not participate in the first event in FAWCO history to coordinate a common activity between FAWCO members attending the annual conference and other club members not in attendance?  On March 8, women (and men) around the world, including FAWCO attendees at the conference in Bern, will participate in Women for Women International's Third Join Me on the Bridge campaign.   Email or to let us know that you'll be joining the campaign.

FAWCO People News

Big thank you to Jackie Isler (AWC Zurich), FAWCO's outgoing Archivist.  Jackie has been invaluable in helping FAWCO document our history for many many years. She is now ready to hand over the reigns to a sympathetic archivist who will look after FAWCO's preserved history.

With regret, FAWCO passes on the sad news that Lisa O'Loughlin Michl passed away suddenly on the 26th of July 2012. Lisa was one of the Founders of the American Women's Club of Liechtenstein.  She was FAWCO Rep for the club, and served on The FAWCO Foundation Board. She was much involved in supporting The FAWCO Foundation through club activities as well as contributing through personal donations.  She is survived by her husband Rudy and son Ryan.

Go to FAWCO People News under Member Services on the FAWCO website to read more about our volunteers.

Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills and build up your expertise in new areas. FAWCO is a volunteer-based organization and we are looking for motivated individuals to fill the following positions:

Archives Manager - reporting to the 3rd VP, the Archives Manager is responsible for FAWCO's electronic and physical archives. She will work with the Board to ensure important documents are preserved. Ideally, the candidate would have a long term residence in Europe. Contact if you are interested.

Reporting to the 2nd VP - please contact 2nd VP Elizabeth Abbot at   if you are interested in any of these positions:

Regional coordinators for Region 7 (Spain and Africa), Region 10 (Caribbean and South America).  A regional coordinator facilitates FAWCO communications within the region (from the clubs to FAWCO and from FAWCO to the clubs). She also works with the hosting club to organize the regional meetings. RCs report to the 2nd VP.

A Best Practices Library Cheerleader - The library is up and running. This year's goal is to collect at least one best practice from each and every club. The "B.P. Cheerleader" will help us reach this goal while encouraging clubs to USE the library.

A "Rep Corner" writer/editor - Working with the 2nd VP,  create a truly supportive, up-to-date and user-friendly Rep Corner on the website.

A "Bring FAWCO to Your Club" Coordinator - To help clubs organize and host information sessions by FAWCO board members, committee and task force chairs -- both face-to-face and virtually.
